I am a prodigal son. I love my Father, He has provided me with everything I could ever need. He protects me, I know I am safe, and He will never let me down.
But I wander, and sometimes seek satisfaction outside of His will. I am convinced that there is more to be found in life that He cannot provide.
Luke 15:12-13 – The younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
He does not restrain me, and allows me to go where I like. He does, however, warn me that the “enjoyment” of the flesh is fleeting and there are consequences to my actions.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
My Father, waits patiently for me to come to my senses and return, and He always welcomes me back. He knows that I will discover that He is right and the “enjoyment” is empty.
Luke 15:20 – he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
Galatians 4:6 – Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He loves me despite the fact that I sometimes ignore His leading, despite my disobedience.
Matthew 7:26 – everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
He loves me just as I am.
Titus 3:5 – He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.
If I allow Him to be the Lord of my life, He works in me to change me in to the likeness of His Son.
Isaiah 41:13 – For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
I am slow to learn from my many mistakes, and I foolishly fall back into the same sinfulness at times. Despite knowing full well that I am never more happy or satisfied than when I am walking in my Father’s love.
1 John 2:15 – Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
Nevertheless, in those times when I am disobedient and rebellious, He asks only that I repent and turn from sin to His open arms. Always with the eternal hope that He has prepared a place of unimagined beauty and indescribable joy for me.
Luke 15:21-24 – “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Let us celebrate, for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’
I am a prodigal son. But Praise God, I am His son!
